The Old Mill Barn, Gamblesby offers spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to ten guests, in twin or double-bedded rooms.   Located in the beautiful and unspoilt Eden Valley, this is a part of Cumbria often missed by the hordes heading for the Lake District. We are open all year round for full weeks or short breaks.  We are registered with Visit England and have 3 stars.

The nature of the accommodation and its rural location make it ideal for families or friends for both outdoor holidays and relaxing get-togethers.  This is also the accommodation for quilting retreats organised by our neighbour, trading as Quiltworks, who has a magnificent quilting studio next door. The village of Gamblesby:

 near Penrith, is a quiet farming village typical of this part of Cumbria with warm red sandstone buildings and a village green.  The village is a conservation area, as well as being within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  We are just 20 minutes from Penrith and the M6 and 30 minutes from Ullswater in the Lake District.  For more details, please take a look at the Location pages.

 Old Mill Barn:

was sympathetically converted by us about 20 years ago to create comfortable accommodation for 10 people.  There are three bedrooms downstairs, at ground floor level - 2 twin and 1 double, and a large shower room with toilet and handbasin. Upstairs are two more bedrooms, 1 double and 1 twin, a bathroom with another shower, toilet and handbasin, and the large open-plan sitting area, dining area and kitchen.  Above that is the small gallery.  The Barn is well equipped for 10 people and includes large TV with digital channels, DVD and Video player, CD player and radio, whilst in the kitchen there is double electric oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, as well as all the small equipment you would expect.  For photos and more details, please see the Accommodation page.

Garden:

There is access into the back garden from the sitting area.  Please note there is a small stream running through part of the garden and some old mill buildings which could present a danger to young, unsupervised children.

What's included:

The Barn is heated by electric night storage heaters with additonal heat from a wood-burning stove.  All electricity is included in the price, as are 2 bags of logs.  Additional logs can be bought from us at cost price.  The beds will be made up for you when you arrive but please note towels are not included. 

Infants: 

There is a cot, high chair and stair gates in the property.

Parking: 

There is parking for 4 cars, as well as additional road parking nearby.

Pets:

Up to 2 well behaved pets are welcome, for which there is an additional charge of £15.

Prices: 

for 2010 range from £400 per week in the winter to £850 for the summer holidays and £1050 for New Year week.  For full details please see the Tariffs page or give us a ring or e-mail.  We accept short breaks at all times except main school holidays (3 nights at weekend or 4 midweek).  (It is sometimes possible to accept a 2 night break, so please ask)
