Accommodation

Old Mill Barn was built as part of the village water mill about 150 years ago.  It is what is called in this area a "bank barn" because it is built into the slope of a hill, which allowed the horses and wagons, and later the tractors, to drive into the larger upper storey straight from the fields.  The first floor is therefore quite a bit larger than the ground floor, which open onto the car parking area.

Downstairs:

So, going in from the downstairs door, you enter the lobby, from which you will access the 3 downstairs bedrooms - 1 double and 2 twin bedded.  There is also the large open shower room with toilet and wash hand basin.  There are both wooden internal and stone external steps to the first floor.

Upstairs:

On the first floor you will find the large, open plan sitting area, dining area and, up one step, the kitchen.  Two further bedrooms are also located here - a double and a twin.  There is also a bathroom with bath/shower, toilet and wash hand basin.

The kitchen is well equipped with an electric double-oven cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.

The sitting area has a large TV with digi-box and integral video player, and there is an additional DVD player.

Gallery:

From the sitting area, there are further stairs leading up to the gallery.  This is actually quite large, but because it has the roof beams cutting it into 3 at chest height, two-thirds of it are only any use to the very small or the very nimble.  There is a table and 4 chairs up there with a futher small TV (only of use when used with DVD player) and we find this is a popular space for the "older youngsters" to relax.

Garden

The garden to the rear of the property is accessed from the sitting area, and consists of a stone patio with garden furniture and grassy slope leading up to a higher level lawn from which you can see the Lake District fells and the Pennine hills.  Please note that there are some old mill buildings attached to the Barn and a small stream running through the garden, as well as some wild bits of garden.  Please be sure that you can supervise small children at all times to avoid potential danger.

Other information:

Up to 2 pets are welcome, for which there is an additional charge of £15

If you have a young baby a cot is available, as is a high chair and stair gates for the living area.

We don't have gas in our area, so all power is electric, the cost of which is included in the price.  The heating is night storage supplemented by wood burning stove.  Two bags of logs are included in the price and you can buy additional bags from us at cost.  Towels are not included although we can provide them by prior arrangement at a modest charge.

There is parking for 4 (or possibly 5 small) cars in front of the Barn.  There is space a little further down the road for additional cars.
